You can also choose to number all pages in a document consecutively or create sections where each starts at page 1 again. Word allows you to format page numbers using regular numbers, roman numerals or letters. Word offers automatic positioning options for page numbers in the footer area that allow you to align the page number much like you would when aligning text with the “Left,” “Right” or “Center” paragraph alignment buttons. However, you can insert page numbers before or after images or place them between text clauses. Page numbers can appear just about anywhere in the footer area, but they cannot appear on top of graphic images.
